News Briefs for the Week of March 20, 2017

The Student Senate toy drive starts this Wednesday and runs for one week. The toys will benefit the children at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital and Bronson’s Children’s Care Unit. Please bring in new or excellent condition toys (no toy weapons nor used stuffed animals) to your 7th hour class. Senate is offering a pizza party for the 7th hour with the most donations; please direct all questions to Wes Hyames (12) at [email protected]

Garden Club will meet Tuesday after school in Olsen’s room L118 until 3:45, with some exciting plans. Newcomers are always welcome, and this week the club is kicking off a fundraising bulb and seed sale! This year’s Prom is April 15 from 8:30-11:30pm at the State Theater in downtown Kalamazoo. The theme is A Night at the Gatsby Masquerade and colors are Black and Gold. Tickets are on sale now for $35 until April 14, then $40 at the door (please make checks to PNHS Prom), in the counseling office before or after school, or during lunches.

Empowered Club will meet on Tuesday in Thorpe’s room 3.129 to engage in discussion about what it was like when Kareem Abdul Jabbar came to Kalamazoo last week and learn about opportunities in the next two weeks to meet Mae Jemison, the first woman of color in space, and Sybrina Fulton, the mother of Trayvon Martin.

Interact Club will be planning the annual $2-gether for Tuleeni fundraiser at their monthly meeting on Tuesday from 3-4pm in Mr. Hill’s room. They will be making preparations and advertisements to launch the fundraiser, which supports the PN-supported Tuleeni Orphanage in Tanzania.
