Huskies host first marching band invitational in new stadium
October 31, 2018
On October 6th, 2018 at 5:00 pm, the Huskie Stadium of the Portage Northern High School was filled with many students, instruments and volunteers as well as spectators. They were all there to watch, compete or help at the Huskie Marching Invitational. Seven marching bands from Michigan came to our school for the first marching invitational at our home stadium, which the school created to make the first invitational in southwest Michigan.
Junior Maren Case says: “It was amazing! It was so incredible to see others on our campus when I’m usually the one competing at another school!”
In Flight III, Richland Gull Lake was second with a score of 82.05 and Byron Center was first with a score of 85.675. In Flight V, Watervliet captured the top honors wiht a score of 82.650 with Buchanan in second with an 81.1. In Flight IV, Lakeshore was first with an 86.825 and Edwardsburg was second with 83.175.
PNHS competed in exhibition because they were hosting, and they earned a score of 85.425. They improved their score to 88.2 at the Jenison invitational on October 20th, and after six weeks of qualification are ready to compete at the State Finals will be held on November 3rd. In the last two years there, the PNMB placed 4th and 7th.

So as a member of the marching band, I think it is a very cool experience to have are own competition. The fact that we have doubled in the bands competing this year is great. With are new show we are hoping to grow are score with Contraium. We also have gotten 5th durning pollination and the 7th and 4th were Patient Zero and The Rookie. I also agree with my amazing captain Maren Case the chance to see everyone at our stadium was so exciting. Especially with Bartz joining are pack this year. #PRIDEOFHUSKIECOUNTRY

This invitational was incredible for not only the band as a whole but as the students and everyone else who had a part in it. This year we have double the amount of bands coming, 12, and one of which being Jenison! This is very exciting as we see Jenision as one of the top 3 Marching Bands in the state. However because of EEE the invitational has to go at light speed to get everything set up and taken down before 7 so we can be off campus. This year I am way more excited to perform our show as by this time we usually have already had 2 competitions, but so far we haven’t, so we will be officially performing our FULL show at our 2nd invitational. Hopefully this year the invitational will be better, as it is already bigger than last year!
