“This was my first varsity football game as a student at Northern, and it was amazing,” said Nen Beal (9). Beal was not the only one excited as the seconds ticked off the clock at McCamley Field revealing the Huskies win over Battle Creek Lakeview 28-24. “It was so amazing. The student section was crazy, and the team pulled out the big win,” said Trey Nuyckx (11).

“This was a great way to start off the 2014 campaign. Our guys got it done when it counted, said coach Pete Schermerhorn. “We didn’t execute as well as we like, but at this level and early stage of the season, it was good enough to secure a huge win against a great team.” Thomas Scheffert (12), Josh Leiter (12), Mitchell Brown (12), and Daryn Snow (11), who caught the go ahead touchdown with 39 seconds left in regulation, led the Huskies on the offensive side of the ball while Malik Holland (12). On defense, Ryan Beadle (11), Grant McNally (11), and Jay Koski (12)  rallied the defense combining for 21 tackles.

The Huskies will now start preparing for Kalamazoo Central who they play on Friday, September 5. “This is special as Lakeview knocked us out of the playoffs last season, so we have some justice and closure. However, we don’t have a lot of time celebrating as Kalamazoo Central is right around the corner.
