Portage Northern was chosen to participate in the NAEP standardized test
March 1, 2019
On February 14th, 2019, PN was chosen to participate in a standardized test, the NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress). This testing is backed by the Nation’s Report Card to help provide information about Michigan’s public education system in comparison with other states. NAEP has provided important information about how students are performing academically since 1969 in 4th, 8th, and 12th grades. At Portage Northern, several students were randomly selected from the senior class had to partake in this 1 ½ hour exam.
The test had three different sections: mathematics, science, and reading, and different students tested in different subject areas. “I had the math test and to me, the test felt really easy and wasn’t bad at all,” said senior Hailey Sobell. “I just didn’t want to take it because I had other assignments that were more important than this test.”
Even though this test may not be beneficial to the senior class, this helped provide information to the NAEP program to help build our educational percentage, which could help the district earn extra funds for our education.
