Last year Mr. Scott decided to leave Americorps in Iowa after just one year to return to Michigan to aid his grandmother who was ill. “I came for my Grandma, but it was also nice to return as a coach,” said Scott. Upon returning, Scott is resuming his duties as the outfield coach for the varsity baseball team–a position he held in 2012. “I coach because I love the game of baseball. I think I have a lot to offer to the players,” said Scott. After playing high school baseball in Louisiana and Georgia, Scott went on to play college ball at Edward Waters college in Florida. He further continued his baseball career by becoming a student coach at Lander University in South Carolina.
Aside from coaching, Scott enjoys taking pictures as a hobby and business. “I started taking pictures for a class in college. It turns out I was good at it, so I stuck with it.” Scott continues to take pictures at sporting events, for models, and is offering to take senior pictures for any seniors at Northern this year.
Scott has quickly become a favorite hall monitor for many students since returning to Portage. Scott can be found on the third floor or the cafeteria. “I rule the third floor with an iron fist,” said Scott.
Portage Northern has seen many hall monitors come and go, but few have made the same impact on the school as Scott.
