Many high school students try out for and participate in the sports we offer here at Portage Northern. Some, however, make a name for themselves and prove their dominance. We have compiled a list of athletes from different sports whose accomplishments have proven themselves to be “Outstanding Athletes.”



Tommy Henry(12): Committed to the University of Michigan as a Sophomore

-mLive athlete of the year

-Gatorade Player of the year

-2015 season ERA of .414

Women’s Basketball

Katya Cambell(12):

-Buzzer beater to beat Plainwell and another against all conference PC

-Offensive player of the year

-8.6 points per game average

Paige Poulter(11):

-Team MVP

-8.7 points per game average

Cross Country, Track, and Field

Alexa Vanderhoff(12)– XC/ Track

-First D1 women’s XC runner in Portage Northern history

-Won 2 cross country meets and 4th place for 1600 SMAC championship

Peyton Witt(9)- XC/ Track

-3rd place in 3rd SMAC championship

-Took 1st in 4 of the 11 races in the XC season

Maddie Ford(11)-Track & Field

-Took 1st in 18 out of the 39 events she participated (100, 200, pole vault, 4 by 100 relay, 4 by 200 relay, and the 400-200-200-400)

Will Kellam(11)- XC/ Track


-1st place at the Glen Oaks Invitational

-Finishing a 5K in under 17 minutes as a freshman

-16:51 10th grade year (5k)

-16:35 in 11th grade (5k)

-XC team captain


-1st place in 4×8

-4:55.40 mile

Clark Cummings(10): Track

– 24.74 second 200 meter time

-52.86 second 400 meter time

– 1st place finisher at 9 races



Peter Mauer(12):

-2 assists

-74 ground balls

-52 takeaways

Mason Seifferlein(10):

-20 goals

-16 assists

Joey Leone(11):

-18 goals

-13 assists

-82 faceoff wins

-All League FOGO

Austin Killman(12):

-23 goals

-7 assists

-HM All-League Midfielder

Camden Kalleward(10):

-13 goals

-24 assists


Nick Sowell(12):

-31 goals

-31 assists

-All-League Attack selection


Lizzie Verduzco(10):

-Perfect game against Benton Harbor

-Described by teammates as very positive (even when frustrated)

-Pitched a recent District game win against PC

Jessie Beadle(10):

-Great at 1st Base

-Described by teammates as funny

-Jessie and Lizzie are the “Dynamic Duo” as teammates say

Paige Poulter(11):

– Most HR’s of the team at 7

-Described by teammates as…

-A clutch hitter

-Good on defence

-A great Leader


Men’s Soccer

Hasten Biddlecome(11):

-70 saves

-10.5 shutouts

-Junior captain

-Leader on and off the field

-All State, all region, all district, and all conference

Travis Wojcik(11):

Breydan Garner(12):

Emily Lewis(10):

-Varsity as a freshman
