Huskies victory over Niles

Upset the referee did not throw a flag on the Niles player who roughed him, Thomas Scheffert (12) had a few words with him. Despite the missed call, Scheffert earned a disqualification, which forces him to sit out against Loy Norrix during the homecoming game. Although Scheffert, Northern’s starting quarterback, had to sit out much of the second half, the Huskies continued to dominate winning 41-6.

“The offense came back,” Coach Schermerhorn said. “We didn’t play really well offensively last week, and we challenged the guys to play with more focus.” Grant McNally (11) scored three touchdowns, and Scheffert three two touchdown passes to Daryn Snow (11) and Seth Learman (11). Josh Leiter (12) also scored on a explosive run late in the game.

— Coach Schermerhorn

Despite some quick and agile Niles runners, The Huskie defense was stellar. “The defense has played well all season. It was a challenge and we were up for the task,” said Schermerhorn. Jay Koski (12) led the defense with 10 tackles and 2 interceptions. Ryan Beadle (11) also picked off a Niles pass and contributed with 8 tackles while Zak DeVera (12) helped out with 7 tackles.

Now 2-1 the Huskies prepare for the homecoming battle with Loy Norrix. With their starting quarterback watching from the sidelines, Northern will look to earn a step closer to a playoff birth.
